Best Tenerife Hotels for Families of Five: 6 Rooms That Work

A family of five can find excellent accommodation in Tenerife, but the search works differently from booking for four. Many rooms described as “family suites” still have a legal maximum of two adults and two children. A large floor area, a sofa bed or the words “family friendly” do not automatically mean that two adults and three children can share the unit.

The best approach is to start with the exact sleeping arrangement, not the star rating. For most families of five, a two-bedroom apartment, bungalow or master suite is the comfortable answer. A well-designed one-bedroom suite that explicitly accepts five can be good value for a short all-inclusive stay, but it asks more of the living room and offers less privacy after bedtime.

This guide compares six Tenerife hotels and aparthotels with credible five-person options. The selection is based on published room capacity, separate sleeping space, family facilities, resort location, meal-plan flexibility and the real cost of reaching beaches and attractions. It does not use live prices, which vary by dates, child ages, board basis and cancellation terms. Enter every guest's correct age before treating any quote as bookable.

Best all-inclusive: Landmar Costa Los Gigantes, provided the one-bedroom layout suits your family. Best luxury: Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora's two-bedroom Master Suite.

Why booking Tenerife for five is unusually tricky

Hotel occupancy is not a puzzle to solve at check-in. It is part of the accommodation licence, fire-safety plan and rate contract. If the booking engine accepts only four people, a fifth child cannot simply be added because the room looks spacious in photographs. Conversely, some apartments can accept five guests but restrict the number of adults, or allow a fifth guest only when that guest is an infant in a cot.

Age matters. A property may price a 12-year-old as a child while another treats the same guest as an adult. A room returned for two adults, two children and one baby may disappear when the youngest child is three. That is why this guide distinguishes a normal five-person booking from a four-occupant suite plus cot.

Layout matters just as much. Five beds spread across two bedrooms and a living room can work well. Five people in one bedroom and a sofa-bed area can be tiring during a seven-night stay, especially when younger children sleep early or older children want privacy. Two bathrooms often improve a family holiday more than a sea-view upgrade.

How we ranked the options

This is not a ranking of the most luxurious hotels in Tenerife. It is a ranking of accommodation that solves a specific problem. Priority went to properties that publish a five-person capacity or clearly offer larger multi-bedroom inventory; provide separate sleeping zones; sit in a resort with useful family infrastructure; and offer a sensible match between facilities, board basis and transport.

We also considered the hidden parts of the bill. A lower room rate can lose its advantage after breakfast for five, airport transfers, taxis to the beach and restaurant meals. An all-inclusive resort can be good value for a pool-led week, but poor value if the family plans Teide, whale watching, Siam Park and several meals outside. The right comparison is the cost of the whole trip, not simply the first nightly figure.

1. HOVIMA La Pinta: best overall for a beachfront family holiday

HOVIMA La Pinta occupies one of Costa Adeje's most convenient family positions, immediately above Playa La Pinta and close to Puerto Colón. The beach is small and sheltered compared with Tenerife's more exposed stretches, while the marina puts whale-watching and coastal boat departures within an easy walk. Fañabé, Torviscas and the Costa Adeje bus station are also reachable without hiring a car.

The attraction for a family of five is apartment-style inventory rather than a conventional hotel room. HOVIMA's current information refers to one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments in its Excellence tier, as well as family facilities, baby, mini and teen clubs and an all-inclusive option. Exact occupancy still depends on the apartment category and the children's ages, so use the booking engine for all five travellers and obtain written confirmation of the named unit. Do not assume that every one-bedroom apartment accepts five.

The property is particularly strong for families who want the independence of an apartment without giving up hotel services. A kitchen helps with breakfast, baby food and snacks, while half board or all-inclusive can reduce the daily work of feeding five people. HOVIMA states that baby equipment such as a cot, baby bath, high chair, bottle warmer, bed rail and pushchair can be requested subject to availability. Request essentials in advance rather than relying on arrival-day stock.

Choose La Pinta if: you want a beach-and-pool week, younger children, boat trips from Puerto Colón and no full-time car. Look elsewhere if: you want a quiet rural base, a large private villa or the lowest possible self-catering rate.

What to confirm before paying

  • The exact apartment name and legal occupancy for the ages entered.
  • The number of closed bedrooms and where the fifth person sleeps.
  • Whether air conditioning extends beyond the living area; HOVIMA's published FAQ specifically describes air conditioning in the living room.
  • Which meals, snacks, drinks and themed dinners are included in the selected board basis.
  • Whether the direct beach route suits a pushchair or mobility requirement, because the hotel notes steps in some areas.

2. HD Parque Cristóbal Tenerife: best central bungalow layout

HD Parque Cristóbal Tenerife replaces the corridor-and-lift feel of a large hotel with low-rise bungalows set in gardens. It is in central Playa de las Américas, convenient for restaurants, shops, the Golden Mile and the wider Los Cristianos-Costa Adeje promenade. The beach is not outside the gate, but the location works well for families who want activity and dining choices within walking distance.

The two-bedroom bungalow categories are the important starting point. HD describes its EMBLEM Family Villa as a 57 m² unit with two separate bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, sofa bed, terrace, private garden and jacuzzi. Other two-bedroom family categories may offer a different combination of services and outdoor space. The key advantage is structural: parents and children can use separate rooms rather than turning the only living room into the children's bedroom every night.

A kitchen gives a family of five leverage over the food budget even if breakfast or a fuller meal plan is available. It also makes the property attractive for a longer stay or for children with different routines. Central Playa de las Américas is easy to enjoy without a car, and taxis for Siam Park or Costa Adeje are straightforward. For Teide, the north coast or rural Tenerife, compare a guided excursion with one or two local rental days instead of automatically hiring a seven-seat car for the full week.

Choose Parque Cristóbal if: two bedrooms, central resort life and bungalow-style outdoor space matter more than direct beach frontage. Look elsewhere if: the holiday depends on stepping straight from the property to sand, or you want a secluded luxury resort.

3. Coral Compostela Beach Golf: best two-bedroom value in the south

Coral Compostela Beach Golf is one of the clearest options because its official room information publishes the relevant numbers. The A2 apartment is listed at 80 m², with two separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, a double sofa bed in the living room, a fully equipped kitchen and a maximum occupancy of five. That is materially different from a vague “family room” label.

The complex sits beside Golf Las Américas, inland from the seafront. Las Vistas and the Golden Mile are accessible, but this is not a roll-out-of-bed beachfront property. Families with toddlers should assess the walking route in summer heat and the return journey after dinner. A short taxi can be worthwhile on tired evenings, and the transport allowance should be included when comparing it with a more expensive beachside apartment.

For families who will cook several breakfasts and dinners, the kitchen can create meaningful savings. The published A2 layout also includes two bathrooms, a rare practical benefit at this price level. Coral advertises other variants, including dual-floor and swim-up products, but do not upgrade on the room name alone. Check windows, stairs, pool barriers, outdoor privacy and the current occupancy of the exact variant. A private or swim-up pool needs a family-specific safety assessment, especially with a toddler.

Choose Compostela Beach Golf if: you want an unambiguous five-person apartment, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen near the main southern resorts. Look elsewhere if: direct beach access or full all-inclusive facilities are central to the trip.

4. Landmar Costa Los Gigantes: best all-inclusive resort for five

Landmar Costa Los Gigantes is designed around family facilities and an all-inclusive resort rhythm. It occupies an elevated position in the Puerto de Santiago area, close to the dramatic west-coast landscape of Los Gigantes. The resort suits families who expect to spend substantial time around pools, children's spaces, sports areas and organised activities rather than leaving the property after breakfast every day.

The official room page lists the 45 m² Landi Suite for a maximum of five people. It has an independent bedroom, a double bed or two twin beds and a sofa bed, plus child-focused amenities. This is a legitimate five-person route, but it is not a two-bedroom suite. Ask for the precise five-person bedding plan. Parents should decide whether the available separation is enough for their children's ages and sleep habits.

This is where all-inclusive can make commercial sense. Five lunches, snacks and soft drinks around a resort pool add up quickly, and leaving an elevated property for every meal is inconvenient. But check the exact inclusion list, restaurant reservation rules and any premium supplement. If three major excursion days are planned, compare the all-inclusive quote against half board or another property, because the family may pay twice for food on days away.

The west-coast base is appealing for Los Gigantes boat trips and sunsets, but less convenient than Costa Adeje for repeated visits to Siam Park or the south's busiest resort strip. TITSA route 473 connects Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje with Puerto Santiago and Los Gigantes, yet a family of five with flight luggage will usually find a pre-booked private transfer or suitable large taxi more comfortable. Specify five passengers, luggage volume and child-restraint needs before accepting a quote.

Choose Landmar if: children want resort activities, parents value predictable meal costs and the family can share a one-bedroom suite. Look elsewhere if: two closed bedrooms are essential or most days will be spent touring the island.

5. Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora: best luxury two-bedroom suite

Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora in Alcalá offers the most complete luxury solution in this shortlist. Its Master Suite Two Bedrooms is published at 132 m², with one double bed, two single beds, two independent bedrooms, two bathrooms and two terraces or balconies. RedLevel versions add premium services and resort- or ocean-view positioning. Occupancy and the fifth person's bed must still be confirmed for the exact combination of adults and children, but the physical layout is built for a larger family rather than improvised from a standard room.

The resort has family, children's and adult-only pool areas, children's activities and several board options, including breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive products. That range lets families decide whether they are buying a resort holiday or using the hotel as a luxury base. A two-bedroom suite plus a comprehensive meal plan will be a significant purchase, so compare like for like: taxes, cancellation terms, airport transfer, premium-area benefits and meals for all children.

Alcalá is quieter than Costa Adeje and has a more local coastal feel, but it is farther from Tenerife South Airport and the main southern attractions. The hotel states that Tenerife South Airport is about 35 km away. A private transfer is the natural choice for five passengers with luggage unless a rental vehicle is genuinely needed. If hiring a car, price the class that fits five people, child seats and cases with the luggage cover in place; a nominal five-seat compact can be useless on airport day.

Choose Gran Meliá if: the room itself is a major part of the holiday, two bedrooms and two bathrooms matter, and a full-service west-coast resort justifies the budget. Look elsewhere if: the family wants central nightlife, frequent Siam Park visits or apartment-level food savings.

6. Coral Los Alisios: best value base in Los Cristianos

Coral Los Alisios offers a two-bedroom Jumbo Duplex with a published maximum of five. The official technical information describes approximately 120 m² including the balcony, two bedrooms with two beds in each, a living room with sofa bed, kitchen, bathroom and furnished balcony. That is a generous amount of space for a larger family and a useful alternative when beachside apartments are expensive.

Los Cristianos is one of Tenerife's easiest resorts without a car. It has supermarkets, restaurants, beaches, bus connections and ferries to La Gomera, while the promenade continues toward Las Vistas and Playa de las Américas. The compromise at Los Alisios is location: it is in the upper part of town, and the return from the seafront is uphill. Families with a pushchair, a grandparent or anyone sensitive to gradients should test the route on a map and budget for occasional taxis.

The duplex arrangement also introduces stairs inside the unit. That can give older children welcome separation but may not suit a newly mobile toddler. Ask about stair gates, bedroom locations, bathroom placement and the exact level within the complex. A large floor area is useful only when its layout matches the family.

Choose Los Alisios if: value, a real kitchen, Los Cristianos services and substantial indoor space matter more than beachfront positioning. Look elsewhere if: hills or internal stairs are a problem, or the family wants hotel-led all-inclusive entertainment.

One large unit or two hotel rooms?

Two standard rooms sometimes price below a premium two-bedroom suite, but the comparison needs care. “Rooms requested together” is not the same as connecting rooms confirmed in the contract. If the hotel cannot guarantee an internal connecting door, one adult may have to sleep in each room. Separate bookings can also produce different cancellation terms or meal plans.

A single multi-bedroom unit usually wins for children who need supervision, shared evening time and family breakfasts. Two rooms can be better with teenagers or grandparents because they create privacy and an extra bathroom. Before booking two rooms, obtain written confirmation of whether they connect, adjoin, sit on the same floor or are simply noted as a preference.

How to compare quotes properly

Create a simple total for the same dates and the same five ages. Include the accommodation, board basis, refundable or non-refundable terms, airport transfer, breakfast if excluded, realistic restaurant spending, parking and car hire. Then add the value of anything the family would otherwise buy, such as water-park access or organised children's activities. Do not assign value to facilities the family will not use.

For an apartment, estimate a realistic grocery basket rather than pretending every meal will be cooked. For all-inclusive, count excursion days and meals likely to be eaten outside. For two rooms, verify whether both quotes include every child and whether the rooms are guaranteed to connect. Screenshots help, but the final confirmation email is the document that matters.

Airport transfer or rental car for five?

Tenerife South Airport is the practical gateway for all six properties. Aena lists TITSA line 40 between the airport, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje, with night line 711 covering later periods. The bus can be economical for a family that packs lightly and stays near a convenient stop. It becomes less attractive with a pushchair, several cases and a final uphill walk.

A pre-booked private transfer is often the easiest arrival choice. Request a vehicle for five passengers plus the actual luggage, not merely “five seats,” and specify every required child restraint. For Landmar or Gran Meliá, the longer west-coast journey makes advance planning particularly useful.

Do not rent a car solely because the family is large. Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos are workable without one. A transfer plus one or two local rental days can cost less and avoid parking. Rent for the full stay when the itinerary genuinely includes Teide, Anaga, the north coast or rural accommodation. Check whether the luggage fits in the selected vehicle and whether a second driver, child seats and excess reduction change the total.

Which property should you book?

For two adults and three young children: start with HOVIMA La Pinta for the easiest beach routine, or HD Parque Cristóbal for two-bedroom bungalow space. For three older children: prioritise two bedrooms and preferably two bathrooms; Coral Compostela Beach Golf or a Master Suite at Gran Meliá are the clearest layouts. For a pool-led all-inclusive week: Landmar Costa Los Gigantes is the purpose-built option, but accept that its five-person Landi Suite is not a two-bedroom unit. For maximum value: compare Coral Compostela Beach Golf with Coral Los Alisios, including taxi costs and the value of the resort location. For a special-occasion trip: Gran Meliá offers the strongest suite and service environment.

Final booking checklist for a family of five

  1. Enter all five guests and their correct ages in the booking engine.
  2. Record the exact room category, not just “family room.”
  3. Confirm the legal maximum occupancy in writing.
  4. Ask how many closed bedrooms there are and where the fifth person sleeps.
  5. Check the number and location of bathrooms.
  6. Confirm whether a cot counts within or in addition to stated occupancy.
  7. Verify connecting rooms as guaranteed, not requested, if booking two units.
  8. Check pool heating, children's club ages and seasonal opening dates for your stay.
  9. Compare identical board bases and cancellation terms.
  10. Book a transfer or rental vehicle that fits five passengers, luggage and child seats.

Tenerife is a strong family destination because it offers everything from walkable beach resorts to large all-inclusive complexes and genuine two-bedroom luxury. For a family of five, the winning booking is rarely the room with the most dramatic photograph. It is the one whose occupancy, doors, beds, bathrooms and location still make sense at 7 a.m., after a beach day and on the journey back to the airport.
